The Election & Payment Process
There are two ways to elect coverage: by mailing the paper forms (pages 4–5) or by using the registration code on page 6 to enroll online.
Critical Deadlines:
60 Days to Elect: You have 60 days to elect coverage starting from your date of eligibility or the date your packet was mailed, whichever is later.
45 Days to Pay: Once you elect coverage, you have 45 days from the date of election to pay your initial premium.
How Retroactive Coverage Works
Insurance coverage will not be activated until full payment is received. However, once payment is processed, your coverage is retroactive back to your original COBRA start date.
Example: If your employment ends on January 31st, your COBRA start date is February 1st. Even if you wait until March to elect and pay, your coverage will "reach back" to cover any claims incurred starting February 1st.
Important Timeline & Card Info
Processing Time: Once we receive your election and payment, it can take up to 7 business days for your status to show as "active" in the insurance carrier's system.
Insurance Cards: You will not receive new insurance cards. Your coverage is a continuation of the same plan you had while employed, so your current cards remain valid.
