Why was my card denied?
There are a number of reasons why a benefits card may be declined. The first thing to do is to determine why. Soon after a card transaction is denied, an email is sent, if there is an email on file, to the participant to notify them of the denial and provide the reason. Participants can also identify why by viewing the transaction on the Online Portal, or by contacting Customer Service.
Some common reasons are low funds in the account, a non-eligible Merchant Category Code (MCC), an inactive card or account, just to name a few.
If the transaction is for a time-sensitive eligible service, a good option would be to pay out-of-pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement.
Can I get cash from an ATM with my FSA card?
A lot of people may wonder if they can access their FSA, HSA, DCA, or LPF funds via ATM to withdraw cash for medical expenses. Unfortunately, FSA cards cannot be used to withdraw FSA funds from an ATM. These cards can only be used directly on qualifying medical products and services. This comes from the fact that FSA funds are pre-tax and cash cannot be easily monitored for eligible purchases.
What if the provider I am going to does not accept cards?
If this is the case, you will need to pay out-of-pocket with another form of payment, then submit a claim through the online portal, mobile app, email, or fax.
